Operate the vehicle until the engine is at normal operating temperature.
Turn IG key to the OFF position and remove all ignition coils and spark plugs.
Disconnect power supply to injector.
Check cylinder compression pressure.
a. Insert a compression gauge into the spark plug hole.
b. Set the throttle plate in the wide-open position.
c. While cranking the engine, measure the compression pressure.
d. Repeat steps (a) through (c) for each cylinder.
☞ Always use a fully charged battery to obtain engine speed of 250 rpm or more.
☞ This measurement must be done in as short a time as possible.
■ Compression pressure Specification
Standard : 1,283kPa (13.0 kgf/㎠, 185psi)
Minimum : 1,135kPa (11.5 kgf/㎠, 164psi)
Difference between each cylinder : 100kPa (1.0kgf/㎠,15 psi) or less
Is engine compression pressure normal?
 | ▶ Go to "Injector inspection" procedure. ▶ Go to "Air cleaner inspection" procedure. ▶ Go to "ETC system inspection" procedure. ▶ Go to "Catalytic converter inspection" procedure. |
 | ▶ Go to "Wet Compression Pressure Inspection" procedure as below. |
IG key "OFF" and inject engine oil about 10cc to the cylinder.
Measure compression pressure when cylinder is wet.
Is compression pressure increased?
| ▶ Disassemble and repair the piston rings and/or cylinder bore. |
| ▶ Disassemble and repair the valve system. ☞ If compression pressure is low after wet type compression test , Most of faults is head gasket problem. |
