DTC Description

The deviation of the camshaft position from the target point is evaluated during stable driving condition. The PCM accumulates this deviation for a certain period and sets DTC P0014 when the accumulated deviation is too high. The target camshaft position is predetermined value depending on engine speed and throttle angle in the PCM.

DTC Detecting Condition

Item

Detecting Condition

Possible Cause

DTC

Strategy

Case 1

Deviation check between actual CAM position and CAM setpoint position in case of changing setpoint (slow response of actuator)

1.

Poor Connector Connection

2.

Contamination of Oil / Clogged Oil Line

3.

Defected Oil Control Valve

4.

Defected Cam Phaser

5.

Defected Exhaust CVVT Assembly

Case 2

Deviation check between actual CAM position and CAM setpoint position (steady deviation)

Enable

Condition

Case 1

2 sec. after engine start

Camshaft Set-point movement more than 12 ˚CRK within in less than 0.7 sec.

Camshaft set-point moved more than 5 times since engine start

Engine Speed at between 600 RPM and 1500 RPM or lower than 5000 RPM

Engine Oil Temp. higher than 68℉(20℃) and lower than 120℉(49℃)

Battery voltage higher than 10 V and lower than 16 V

No relevant DTC present

Case 2

2 sec. after engine start

Camshaft set-point moved more than 5 times since engine start

Camshaft set-point not close to full retard position (3 ˚CRK away from full advanced position)

Camshaft set-point close to full retard position ( 13 to 23 engine revolutions passed after camshaft set-point changes, depending on RPM/Oil temp. model)

Camshaft set-point minus Actual position more than 5 ˚CRK

Engine Speed at between 600 RPM and 1500 RPM or lower than 5000 RPM

Engine Oil Temp. higher than 68℉(20℃) and lower than 120℉(49℃)

Battery voltage higher than 10 V and lower than 16 V

No relevant DTC present

Threshold

Value

Case 1

CAM position movement less than 3.4 °CRK within 0.7 sec. (with CAM setpoint moving by 12 °CRK)

Case 2

Integral of Camshaft position actual value - Camshaft position setpoint higher than 45°CRK*sec.

Integral of Camshaft position actual value - Camshaft position setpoint higher than 30°CRK*sec. when actual camshaft movement is slower than camshaft setpoint movement in retard direction.

※ For error detection, the above condition should be met 5 times.
