Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

▶ Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to "Power Circuit Inspection" procedure.

Power Circuit Inspection
1.

Ignition "OFF".

2.

Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect Crankshaft Position Sensor connector.

3.

Ignition "ON".

4.

Measure voltage between Pin No. 1 (Power) terminal of Crankshaft Position Sensor harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : B+

5.

Is measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Ground Circuit Inpsection" procedure.

▶ Repair open or short in power circuit between Crankshaft Position Sensor and Battery and then go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.

Ground Circuit Inspection
1.

Ignition "OFF".

2.

Disconnect Battery (-) terminal.

3.

Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect Crankshaft Position Sensor connector.

4.

Measure resistance between Pin No. 2 (Ground) terminal of Crankshaft Position Sensor harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : Approx. below 1 Ω

5.

Is measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Signal Circuit Inspection" procedure.

▶ Repair open or short in ground circuit between Crankshaft Position Sensor and chassis ground and then go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.

Signal Circuit Inspection
1.

Ignition "OFF".

2.

Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect Crankshaft Position Sensor connector.

3.

Ignition "ON".

4.

Measure voltage between Pin No. 3 (Signal) terminal of Crankshaft Position Sensor harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : Approx. 4.8V

5.

Is measured value within specification?

▶ Check the camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket for abnormal wear, cracks, or damange and replace as necessary.

▶ Inspect the tensioner arm and chain guide for abnormal wear, cracks, or damage and replace as necessary.

▶ Check the tensioner piston moves smoothly when the ratchet pawl is released with thin rod.

▶ Perform applicable troubleshooting guide as necessary, and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Repair open or short in signal circuit between Crankshaft Position Sensor and PCM and then go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.
