Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

▶ Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to "Power Circuit Inspection" procedure.

Power Circuit Inspection
1.

Ignition "OFF".

2.

Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect Exhaust Camshaft Position Sensor connector.

3.

Ignition "ON".

4.

Measure voltage between Pin No. 1 (Power) terminal of Exhaust Camshaft Position harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : B+

5.

Is measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Ground Circuit Inpsection" procedure.

▶ Repair open or short in power circuit between Exhaust Camshaft Position and Battery and then go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.

Ground Circuit Inspection
1.

Ignition "OFF".

2.

Disconnect Battery (-) terminal.

3.

Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect Exhaust Camshaft Position connector.

4.

Measure resistance between Pin No. 2 (Ground) terminal of Exhaust Camshaft Position harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : Approx. below 1 Ω

5.

Is measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Signal Circuit Inspection" procedure.

▶ Repair open or short in ground circuit between Exhaust Camshaft Position and chassis ground and then go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.

Signal Circuit Inspection
1.

Ignition "OFF".

2.

Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect Exhaust Camshaft Position connector.

3.

Ignition "ON".

4.

Measure voltage between Pin No. 3 (Signal) terminal of Exhaust Camshaft Position harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : Approx. 4.8V

5.

Is measured value within specification?

▶ Check for poor connection between PCM and component: backed out terminal, improper mating, broken locks or poor terminal to wire connection. Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure

▶ Perform applicable troubleshooting guide as necessary, and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
