Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals.

Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.

2.

Thoroughly check all connectors (and connections) for looseness, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, and/or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found?

▶ Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to "Power Circuit Inspection" procedure.

Power Circuit Inspection
1.

Ignition "OFF".

2.

Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect Throttle Body connector.

3.

Ignition "ON".

4.

Measure voltage between Pin No. 5 (TPS Supply) terminal of Throttle Body Sensor harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : Approx. 5 V

5.

Is measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Ground Circuit Inspection" procedure.

▶ Repair open or short in power circuit between Throttle Body and ECM/PCM and then go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.

Ground Circuit Inspection
1.

Ignition "OFF".

2.

Disconnect Battery (-) terminal.

3.

7.

Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect ECM/PCM connector.

8.

Measure resistance between Pin No. 1 (Ground) terminal of Throttle Body harness connector and Pin No. 54 (Ground) terminal of ECM/PCM harness connector.

Specification : Approx. below 1 Ω

9.

Is measured value within specification?

▶ Go to "Signal Circuit Inspection" procedure.

▶ Repair open or short in ground circuit between Throttle Body and chassis ground and then go to "Verification of vehicle Repair" procedure.

Signal Circuit Inspection
1.

Ignition "OFF".

2.

Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect Throttle Body connector.

3.

Ignition "ON".

4.

Measure voltage between Pin No. 4 (TPS1 Signal) terminal of Throttle Body harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : Approx. 4 V

5.

Measure voltage between Pin No. 5 (TPS2 Signal) terminal of Throttle Body harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : Approx. 0 V

6.

Ignition "OFF".

7.

Disconnect Battery (-) terminal.

8.

Refer to "Shop Manual" and disconnect ECM/PCM connector.

9.

Measure resistance between Pin No. 4 (TPS1 Signal) terminal of Throttle Body harness connector and Pin No. 96 (TPS1 Signal) terminal of ECM/PCM harness connector.

10.

Measure resistance between Pin No. 5 (TPS2 Signal) terminal of Throttle Body harness connector and Pin No. 75 (TPS2 Signal) terminal of ECM/PCM harness connector.

Specification : Approx. below 1 Ω
