Description

Engine does not start when main relay (Engine control relay) is operated normally and immobilizer system is normal.

Inspect CKPS (Crankshaft Position Sensor) and CMPS (Camshaft Position Sensor) signal input.

Diagnostic Procedure
R- Engine reference of CMPS, CKPS

R-engine saves last correlation between CKPS position and CMPS position in the ECM for stable starting. In case of faulty CMPS or CKPS, Engine starting is possible by using saved cylinder position in the ECM.

- In case of faulty CMPS : If there is no crankshaft position changing at IG 'OFF', Engine can start.

- In case of faulty CKPS : ECM detects proper cylinder position and Engine can start by using CMPS. (However there is delayed starting and abnormal sound like knocking sound)

Fuel pressure inspection at cranking
1.

Connect GDS(scantool) to Data Link Connector (DLC).

2.

IG S/W 'ON' and ENGINE 'OFF'

3.

Select 'Engine Speed', 'Fuel Pressure', 'Battery Voltage'.

4.

Monitor parameters on the scantool selected data while engine cranking.

Symptom

Inspection procedure

Case1

● DTC related to CMPS and CKPS are displayed at cranking.

☞ Go to "CMPS inspection" or "CKPS inspection"

Case2

● 'Fuel pressure' is NOT above 120 bar (12 Mpa) while engine cranking.

☞ Go to "Fuel system inspection" (Refer to Fig.1)
