Description

If exhaust fumes is discharged through muffler, DPF would be damaged. In case of small crack in the DPF by faulty component, a small quantity of black smoke would be shown through muffler.

But if lots of black smoke is discharged through muffler, there is fatal damage in the DPF. DPF would be damaged by the cause of black smoke.

Finding the cause of damage in the DPF is very important before replacing the DPF.

Diagnostic Procedure
Classify symptoms.

Symptom

Inspection procedure

Case1

● In case that a small quantity of black smoke is discharged through muffler, there is no trouble symptom.

● Go to 'DPF visual inspection' procedure.

Case2

● In case that lots of black smoke is discharged through muffler at accelerating, poor acceleration occurs or engine stalls. (DTC is displayed.)

● Inspect poor acceleration symptom refer to 'DTC troubleshooting procedures'.

● Go to 'DPF visual inspection' procedure.

Case3

● In case that lots of black smoke is discharged through muffler at accelerating, poor acceleration occurs or engine stalls. (NO DTC)

● Inspect poor acceleration symptom refer to 'Poor acceleration' inspection of the 'Symptom Analysis'.

● Go to 'DPF visual inspection' procedure.

Case4

● In case that lots of white smoke is discharged through muffler at high speed driving. Also lots of white smoke is discharged intermittently.

● If low quality diesel fuel (constituent of sulfur is above 50 ppm) is used and DPF temperature is higher than 600℃, Excessive aluminum sulfur is discharged by high chemical reaction. Do not inhale exhaust fumes.

● If lots of white smoke is discharged when exhaust system temperature is high sufficiently or in the DPF regeneration mode or in the forcing DPF regeneration function,

☞ Replace all fuel and verify that the symptom is corrected.
