First of all check damage of harness and terminals : Check terminals for contact resistance, corrosion and deformation.
Perform the battery load test to inspect battery. (Battery has been on charge fully.)
IG S/W 'OFF', ENGINE 'OFF'.
Remove the main relay (engine control relay) to prevent engine starting from cranking.
Check battery voltage using multimeter.
Install a ampere meter (Clamp type) to power cable of the starter.
Check the flow current and battery voltage while engine cranking.
☞ The flow current should be 200 ~ 250A while engine cranking. [The flow current can be changed by engine temperature and starter capacity (W).]
☞ Battery voltage should be above 9.8 V while engine cranking.
Symptom | Inspection procedure | |
Case1 | ● Battery voltage is dropped below 9.8 V and flow current is dropped rapidly while engine cranking (load is applied). | ● Replace the battery. (Inner cell short and battery life run out.) |
Case2 | ● Battery voltage is above 9.8 V and flow current is regular while engine cranking (load is applied). | ● Reuse the battery (Battery is good) after checking the battery fluid leak and corrosion of terminals. |
