Component Inspection
■ TPS Inspection
1.

Start engine and install GDS.

2.

Monitor the "TPS VOLTAGE1" and "TPS VOLTAGE2" parameters on the GDS data list.

Specification : Refer to "Signal Waveform & Data" in the "General Information" procedure.

- Output of TPS1 increases smoothly in proportion with the throttle valve opening angle.

- Output of TPS2 decreases smoothly in inverse proportion with the throttle valve opening angle.

3.

Are the TPS VOLTAGE1&2 within the specification?

▶ Go to next procedure.

▶ Check TPS1&2, referring troubleshooting guide for DTC P0121/P0221. Repair or replace as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

■ ETC Motor Inspection
4.

Visually/physically inspect the restriction or any foreign objects in throttle body.

5.

Clean or replace as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

If OK, go to next step as below.

6.

Ignition "OFF".

7.

Disconnect the ETC motor harness connector.

8.

Measure resistance between 'ETC output 1' terminal and 'ETC output 2' terminal of ETC motor harness connector. (Component side)

Specification : 1.2~1.8Ω at 20℃(68℉)

9.

Is resistance within specification?

▶ Check for poor connection between PCM and component: backed out terminal, improper mating, broken locks or poor terminal to wire connection. Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Substitute with a known-good switch and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace component and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

note

■ ETC Adaptive Value Reset / Relearn

After replacing ETC assembly, TPS or ECM or performing ECM software upgrade, the ETC adaptive value must be reset / relearned according to the following procedure. If not, MIL may be illuminated with DTC(s).

1. Check for DTC(s)

2. Clear DTC(s).

3. Select Data Treatment.

Fig.1) Example of GDS screen shown

4. Select Resetting Adaptive Values.

Fig.2) Example of GDS screen shown

5. Select "Reset", then wait 10 seconds after turning ignition key off (Relay OFF).

Fig.3) Example of GDS screen shown

Fig.4) Example of GDS screen shown

Fig.5) Example of GDS screen shown

6. Wait for 5 seconds after turning ignition ON (ETC adaptive value relearn). If equipped with Push Button Start System, push the engine start button 2 times without depressing the brake pedal, this will allow the ECM to automatically learn the throttle valve position then wait for approximately 5 seconds.

→ Enable conditions : Battery > 10V & Intake Air Temp. > 5.3°C (41.5°F) & 5.3°C (41.5°F) < Engine Coolant Temp. < 99.8°C (211.6°F)

7. Start engine.

8. Recheck DTC(s).
