The Variable Intake System (VIS) lengthens the intake manifold to improve engine torque at low RPM, and shortens the manifold for higher end RPM torque and performance. The VIS uses two intake manifold solenoids. The VIS valves are installed on the intake manifold (VIS Valve 1) and the surge tank (VIS Valve 2). These VIS valves 1 and 2 control vacuum modulators which activate valves in the intake manifold and the surge tank. These valves have four combinations of open or closed positions that are commanded by the PCM according to engine operating conditions.
