Removal and Installation
note

Disassembly of the thermostat would have an adverse effect, causing a lowering of cooling efficiency.

1.

Remove the engine cover.

2.

Drain engine coolant so that its level would be under the thermostat height.

(Refer to Cooling System - "Coolant")

3.

Remove the air duct.

(Refer to Intake and Exhaust System - "Air Cleaner")

4.

Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).

5.

Remove the water inlet fitting (A), O-ring (B) and thermostat (C).

Tightening torque :

16.7 ~ 22.6 N.m (1.7 ~ 2.3 kgf.m, 12.3 ~ 16.6 lb-ft)

note

Place the thermostat with the jiggle valve (A) upward.

6.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

7.

Fill the radiator with coolant.

(Refer to Cooling System - "Coolant")

8.

Start engine and check for leaks.

Inspection
1.

Immerse the thermostat in water and gradually heat the water.

2.

Check the valve opening temperature.

Valve opening temperature : 82 ± 2°C (179.6 ± 3.6°F)

Full opening temperature : 95°C (203°F)

If the valve opening temperature is not as specified, replace the thermostat.

3.

Check the valve lift.

Valve lift :

10 mm (0.3937 in) or more at 95°C (203°F)

If the valve lift is not as specified, replace the thermostat.
