Removal
note

Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.

To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.

caution

Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.

1.

Disconnect the battery negative terminal.

2.

Remove the engine cover.

3.

Disconnect the wiring connectors and harness clamps and remove the connector brackets around the cylinder head cover.

4.

Disconnect the breather hose (A).

5.

Disconnect the fuel hose quick connectors (A).

6.

Remove the injectors (A), the high pressure fuel pipes (B), the injector return line (C).

(Refer to Engine Control/Fuel System - "Injector")

7.

Remove the fuel hose bracket (D) and the function block (E).

8.

Remove the EGR solenoid valve (F) and vacuum pipe & hose (G). (Euro-4/5 only)

9.

Remove the oil level gauge (A).

10.

Remove the cylinder head cover (A).

Unfasten the cylinder head cover bolts in the sequence shown.

Installation
1.

Install the cylinder head cover (A) with new head cover gaskets (B, C).

Fasten the cylinder head cover bolts in the sequence shown.

Tightening torque

Step 1 : 3.9 ~ 5.9 N.m (0.4 ~ 0.6 kgf.m, 2.9 ~ 4.3 lb-ft)

Step 2 : 8.8 ~ 10.8 N.m (0.9 ~ 1.1 kgf.m, 6.5 ~ 8.0 lb-ft)

Standard liquid gasket : LOCTITE 5900H or equivalent

Check that the mating surfaces are clean and dry before applying liquid gasket.

Install the cylinder head cover in 5 minutes after applying the liquid gasket.

After installing, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.

Remove the harmful material (engine oil, cutting oil and etc) located in the upper area of the cylinder head and the timing chain cover before installing the cylinder head cover.

Remove hardened sealant located in the upper area between the cylinder head and the timing chain cover.

Before installing the cylinder head cover, check that the protrusion of the head cover gasket is assembled exactly into the slot of the head cover.

Before installing the cylinder head cover, apply liquid gasket to the T-joints (A) on the upper area between the cylinder head and the timing chain cover and the rear area (B) of the cam carrier.

2.

Install the other parts in the reverse order of removal.
