Check the cooling system coolant level.
Is the coolant in the reservoir at the proper level?
![]() | ▶ Go to next step as below. |
![]() | ▶ Repair or add engine coolant as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |
Check if the thermostat bypass valve is stuck in the open position or if the correct type of thermostat was installed. Replace thermostat as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
Check the valve opening temperature.
Specification(Valve opening temperature) : 80~84°C(176~183°F)
If the opening temperature is not as specified, Replace thermostat as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. If OK, go to next step as below.
IG KEY "OFF".
Disconnect ECTS connector.
Measure resistance between signal and ground terminal of ECTS connector(Component Side).
Temperature[ ℃(℉)] | Resistance[㏀] |
-40(-40) | 48.14 |
-20(-4) | 14.13~16.83 |
0(32) | 5.79 |
20(68) | 2.31~2.59 |
40(104) | 1.15 |
60(140) | 0.59 |
80(176) | 0.32 |
Is the measured resistance within specification?
![]() | ▶ Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness(es) and terminals. Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage. So, check poor connections and the related circuit between ECM/PCM and component thoroughly. Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |
![]() | ▶ Substitute with a known - good ECTS and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace ECTS and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |
