Terminal and Connector Inspection
1.

Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals.

Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage

2.

Thoroughly check all connectors (and connections) for looseness, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, and/or damage.

3.

Has a problem been found ?

▶ Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to "CAN communication circuit inspection" procedure.

CAN Communication line check
■ CAN Communication check
1.

Connect all kinds of modules related to CAN communication.

2.

IG KEY "ON" or Engine "ON"

3.

Measure signal waveform between terminal C-CAN-HIGH of cluster module harness connector and chassis ground.

4.

Measure signal waveform between terminal C-CAN-LOW of cluster module harness connector and chassis ground.

Specification : Refer to the below signal waveform

5.

Is the measured registance within specification ?

▶ Go to next procedure.

▶ Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

■ CAN communication circuit inspection (EPS ↔ Cluster)
6.

Ignition "OFF"

7.

Disconnect EPS(MDPS) connector and Cluster connector

8.

Measure the resistance between CAN-HIGH terminal of EPS(MDPS) harness connector and CAN-HIGH terminal of Cluster harness connector.

9.

Measure the resistance between CAN-LOW terminal of EPS(MDPS) harness connector and CAN-LOW terminal of Cluster harness connector.

Specification : below 1Ω

10.

Is the measured resistance within specification ?

▶ Check EPS ECU, Cluster connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to next procedure

▶ Check for open/short in harness.

▶ Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

■ CAN register and communication line inspection
11.

IG KEY OFF

12.

Disconnect ECM/PCM connector and Cluster connector.

13.

Measure resistance between terminal CAN Low and CAN High of ECM/PCM.

Specification : About 120 Ω

14.

Is the measured value within specification ?

▶ Go to next procedure.

▶ If the measured value is out of specification, repair or replace 120Ω CAN register(Inside of ECM/PCM and Cluster) and then, go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ If the measured value is lower than 10Ω, repair or replace CAN High and CAN Low are short each other. And then, go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Substitute with a known-good "ECM/PCM, Cluster" and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace "ECM/PCM, Cluster" and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
