Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals.
Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage
Thoroughly check all connectors (and connections) for looseness, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, and/or damage.
Has a problem been found ?
![]() | ▶ Repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |
![]() | ▶ Go to "CAN communication circuit inspection" procedure. |
Connect all kinds of modules related to CAN communication.
IG KEY "ON" or Engine "ON"
Measure signal waveform between terminal C-CAN-HIGH of cluster module harness connector and chassis ground.
Measure signal waveform between terminal C-CAN-LOW of cluster module harness connector and chassis ground.
Specification : Refer to the below signal waveform
Are the measured signalwaveforms normal?
![]() | ▶ Go to next procedure. |
![]() | ▶ Check for open/short in harness and then repair as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. ▶ Substitute with a known-good "SPAS module" and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace "SPAS module" and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |
Ignition "OFF"
Disconnect EPS connector and SPAS connector
Measure the resistance between CAN-HIGH terminal of EPS harness connector and CAN-HIGH terminal of SPAS harness connector.
Measure the resistance between CAN-LOW terminal of EPS harness connector and CAN-LOW terminal of SPAS harness connector.
Specification : below 1Ω
Is the measured resistance within specification ?
![]() | ▶ Check EPS(MDPS) and SPAS module connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. ▶ Go to next procedure. |
![]() | ▶ If the measured value is ∞ Ω, repair or replace the open in CAN High / CAN Low circuit. And then, go to 'Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |
IG KEY OFF
Disconnect ECM/PCM connector and Cluster connector.
Measure resistance between terminal CAN Low and CAN High of ECM/PCM.
Measure resistance between terminal CAN Low and CAN High of Cluster.
Specification : About 120 Ω
Is the measured resistance within specification ?
![]() | ▶ Check ECM/PCM, EPS ECU and Cluster connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. ▶ Go to next procedure. |
![]() | ▶ Substitute with a known-good "ECM/PCM, Cluster" and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace "ECM/PCM, Cluster" and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure. |
