Description

When poor acceleration occurs or excessive black smoke is discharged or engine stalls, Inspect intake system leakage, faulty MAFS and EGR Actuator valve stuck by monitoring MAFS and EGR Actuator current data.

Diagnostic Procedure
Current data inspection (EGR actuator and MAFS)
1.

IG KEY "ON", ENGINE "ON".

2.

Connect GDS(scantool) to Data Link Connector (DLC).

3.

Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.

4.

Electrical system and A/CON "OFF".

5.

Select "Air Mass Flow per Cylinder", "EGR Actuator" and "Engine speed" parameters on the GDS(scantool).

6.

Monitor "Air Mass Flow per Cylinder" data when "EGR Actuator" is not operated (5.9%) and "EGR Actuator" is operated (Approx. 60%~68 %).

■ Normal data

☞ 'EGR Actuator' is NOT operated (5%) at idle : 380mg/st ± 20mg/st

☞ 'EGR Actuator' is operated (40%~50 %) at idle : lower than EGR Actuator valve is not operated.

☞ EGR Actuator valve is operated for approx. 60 seconds after racing the accelerator pedal at warm up idle (Neutral, Load is not applied)

Symptom

Inspection procedure

Case1

● 'Air Mass Flow per Cylinder' data by operating EGR Actuator valve is normal

● Go to "VGT system inspection"

Case2

● 'Air Mass Flow per Cylinder' data is lower than 250 mg/st although 'EGR Actuator' data is 5%.

● Inspect EGR Actuator valve open stuck after checking intake hose leakage between MAFS and turbo charger.

● Inspect throttle flap valve close stuck.

Case3

● 'Air Mass Flow per Cylinder' data is above 300 mg/st although 'EGR Actuator' data is 40%~50% (EGR Actuator valve is operated).

● Inspect blocked EGR cooler or EGR Actuator valve close stuck after checking intake hose leakage between intake manifold and turbo charger (through intercooler)
